Why Choose Summer VPK?

Is Summer VPK right for your child? Are you looking for a high quality summer program for your pre-kindergartner? Are you a Florida resident? If so, check out The Village for Summer VPK!

Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) is available to children who reside in Florida during the year before they enter kindergarten. While most families choose a traditional school year program, Summer VPK is an option for families who did not take advantage of the school year benefit and would like to ensure their child has the tools and skills needed for kindergarten before they enter school in the fall.

Not all preschool programs that offer VPK during the traditional school year also offer Summer VPK, but The Village ELC has been proud to offer the summer program for several years. In order to attend Summer VPK at The Village ELC in summer 2020, the following requirements must be met:

  • Students must have a birthdate between 9/2/14 and 9/1/15
  • Students must have a valid VPK certificate (visit ELCHC.ORG for more information and to apply for the required certificate)
  • The VPK certificate can only be used once, so students who attended VPK during the school year may not use the certificate for summer.
  • Student absences during the program may not exceed 20% of scheduled days of instruction.

Summer VPK at The Village ELC is a free, full-day program (see image above for details). The minimum education level for Summer VPK teachers at The Village ELC is a bachelor’s degree, and the teachers are experienced educators who are skilled at preparing children for kindergarten. Academics, such as math, science, pre-literacy skills, art, and technology are focal points of VPK, and student skills for social-emotional readiness are cultivated. Nature, the environment, and the outdoors are also important elements of the program.

Seating is limited to the first 24 students who present a valid VPK certificate.
